London Fashion Week, autumn/winter 2017

March 3, 2017

London Fashion Week launched this season at its new venue, The Store Studios on the Strand, joining London Fashion Week Men’s and London Fashion Week Festival in the heart of London. The Store Studios acted as the home to the London Showrooms, presentations, shows and events during the six fashion-filled days.

Here are 5 of our favourite shows/events!

Paul Costelloe

On the first day, I attended the Paul Costelloe show at The Waldorf Hilton Hotel, which started with a champagne reception and took place in a grand ballroom. Costelloe showcased a variety of feminine dresses, tweed and coats that he’s known for, featuring intricate cutouts, and a variety of prints and fabrics.

From Italian quilted cottons, silk jacquards and the finest wools and cashmeres, to pure French cottons, English latex and Irish tweed – Costelloe sourced the best of European fabrics. Red or burgundy tights and black or green leather leggings made shorter dresses appropriate for the autumn/winter season. Overall, this collection proved that the big-sleeve trend isn’t going anywhere! With a nod to the Tudor period, shoulders and sleeves were exaggerated and length-diverse.

Le Kilt

Next on our schedule was Le Kilt’s ‘A Perfect Contract’ presentation, which was held in a dark room in The Store Studios and had live classical music playing in the background. The focus was on the stories behind the clothing, as it was a very personal collection for brand’s designer Samantha and Le Kilt’s Scottish heritage.

The collection celebrated small details of classic pieces like the kilt, with subtle silhouette and colour experimentation. The 10-piece womenswear collection also included coats, skirts, dresses and jackets in collaboration with renowned Scottish brand Mackintosh, while denim pieces had hidden wool detailing to bring in the classic touches of Le Kilt.

Designer Showrooms with Rock Vault and Headonism

We also managed to check out the London Collections’ Designer Showrooms at the British Fashion Council’s party with Rock Vault and Headonism. Headonism is a BFC initiative, curated by Stephen Jones (OBE) to celebrate the best of new British milliners.

Champagne was freely flowing, along with tunes by the DJ on-site and a sunglasses’ station where guests were invited to try on the latest styles from the Sunglass Hut.

Alexandra Moura

Meanwhile, over at the Banking Hall, Portuguese designer Alexandra Moura presented a combined showcase of her womenswear and menswear collections. The women wore frilly blouses and dresses, chunky knits, long dresses and layers, while the men were clad in puffy vest and jackets with cropped wide-leg trousers.

The collection embraced a unique urban, cool and confident wearer.

Emilio de la Morena

Last, but certainly not least, we enjoyed the presentation by Spanish designer Emilio de la Morena. Live violins and cello players added a lovely soothing atmosphere to this early morning show.

This collection was perfect for the cocktail hour: lace and colour melange dresses were presented in body-con, mini or floor-length designs. The presentation was punctuated by jackets and trousers for those who prefer a more tailored look. Perfect for your next occasion or night on the town!
