“Quintessential New York” by The Mark Hotel

August 15, 2014

Few things say “New York” the way Central Park does. So when the landmark Upper East Side hotel The Mark announced their launch of a summer bike and picnic in the park activity, FAJO had to take it for a ride.

Located less than one block from Central Park, The Mark invites its guests to pick up a bike — customized to include the hotel’s signature black-and-white stripes — as well as a picnic basket — prepared by celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten — and head off to enjoy a quintessential afternoon in the park.

We rode our bikes along the winding paths of Central Park’s East side, following the map prepared by the hotel for our adventure, before settling on a place to feast.

Fully equipped with cutlery and a blanket, our picnic basket was filled with a whole chilled artichoke with mustard sauce; a summery chopped lettuce salad with avocado, apple, pecans and blue cheese; a chicken club sandwich and a seasonal fruit plate. It was difficult not to feel like we were in a classic New York movie.

The Mark is known for hosting celebrity attendees of the nearby MET Ball as well as New York Fashion Week goers, and the luxury hotel is home to The Mark Restaurant, one of Vongerichten’s 11 New York restaurants.

Recommended to anyone interested in a fully curated Upper East Side experience, the bike ride and picnic in the park by The Mark is a not-to-be-missed classic New York City experience.
