New York Fashion Week: bright and bold for spring/summer 2018

A click of the camera. A pause at the end of the runway. And all too soon, another New York Fashion Week has wrapped up.

Things are definitely looking bright in spring/summer 2018. Once again this year, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and even Ottawa’s own Herieth Paul made appearances on the catwalks.

This year, we focused on three major fashion labels: Tom Ford, Jason Wu, and my personal favourite, Marchesa.

Here are our Top 5 looks from each show!

Tom Ford

Tom Ford’s spring/summer 2018 line featured models swish and sashay down the runway in 90s-inspired low cut or mini bra-like tops, paired with large blazers, which accentuated the models’ lithe frames and created a silhouette with large shoulders. Many looks shined in sequins and leather, which—in true Ford style—added a touch of fun and badass.

Marchesa

Marchesa’s designs for spring/summer 2018 stayed true to the label created by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig. The soft colour palette was interspersed with deep reds and blacks, creating drama in the looks. Dresses layered with tulle and satin, or even details like tassels and bows, only added to this romanticism as the models floated down the runway. Marchesa never seems to disappoint!

Jason Wu

Jason Wu’s ready-to-wear spring/summer 2018 line opened with a bang and one of the hottest models in recent years, Bella Hadid, in a pink-striped number. This look and details were recurrent throughout the show, including a peekaboo of skin at the waist or in the high slit, and even stripes. If we had to pick one word to depict this line: “effortless” would have a run for its money. The dresses and outfits hugged the models, while still giving off a very casual, put-together vibe.
